It’s so hard to find outdoor adventure books written by women that aren’t all “poor me, I’m cold, I’m tired, I’m scared” moanings. This book, however, isn’t like that. It’s one of the best outdoor books written by a woman adventurer. Patch gives great descriptions of the canyon, the river, the rapids, the overall environment. She doesn’t get into the constant moaning, as so many other books do. She admits she’s scared and then gets on with the task at hand. I’ve never rafted in the Grand Canyon or anywhere else, for that matter; water is not my personal milieu, but Patch gives interesting technical information that is interesting, explaining how a rapid is “read” and how it should be run. Excellent writing that makes the reader feel like being there, sharing the adventure. I highly recommend “Canyon Solitude”!
